Tig (affectionately named by her brother as a child) was born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised by her single mother. While serving time in a Texas high school, Tig failed three grades by entertaining classmates rather than entertaining the notion of a successful academic career. After dropping out of school, and a brief stint in the music industry while in Denver, she decided to lodge herself firmly into the always fun and always easy world of comedy.
Last year (2010) was Tig’s third season recurring as “Officer Tig” on “The Sarah Silverman Program” on Comedy Central and also recurred on ABC’s “In the Motherhood” opposite Megan Mullally and Cheryl Hines. She was also a writer/consultant on the 2010 “MTV Movie Awards”. Tig is set to release her first comedy album with one of the most prestigious indie music labels, Secretly Canadian in 2011. She will be the first comedian they do an album with. In previous years, she has had her own half-hour comedy special, “Comedy Central Presents Tig” and recurred on Comedy Central’s critically acclaimed show “Dog Bites Man”. Tig is a regular each year at all of the prestigious comedy festivals including Montreal Just For Laughs, Kilkenny, Aspen, Vancouver, and Melbourne (she will be doing her own one hour show at Melbourne in 2011) to name a few. She has also performed on CBS’s “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly” and performed on SHOWTIME’s “Live Nude Comedy”.
Tig performs regularly at the Hollywood Improv, The UCB Theater and at Largo in her monthly show, “Tig Notaro and Friends”…and of course, headlining clubs, colleges, theaters and living rooms across the universe.
