ERIK MARINO is writer & stand-up comedian who can make anyone 17% funnier (that's the "Marino Guarantee!"). His jokes have appeared in Weeds, The Hughleys, The Hollow Men, Cedric the Entertainer Presents, That's So Raven, 2003 MTV Movie Awards and the Emmy-winning episode of ELLEN where Ellen DeGeneres came out of the closet.
In 1993, Erik graduated from Syracuse University's prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication with a degree in Television, Radio & Film Production, interned (worked for free!) at DayJob Films on the Universal Studio lot (he rode the rides for free too!), and briefly traveled under an assumed name ("Tim Joyce") so he could afford the plane ticket and move to Hollywood.
In Hollywood , Erik worked as a production assistant on NBC's Madman of the People (which was on between Seinfeld and E.R. until NBC realized 5 million people were turning off their TVs for a half-hour), EXTRA (during the OJ trial), the Ned & Stacey pilot (FOX) and Ellen(ABC). While on Ellen, Erik was promoted to writers' assistant; meaning he contributed jokes and story ideas to the show (if they were good!) and was ridiculed for his lunch order and typos (when they were bad). In 1997, "The Puppy Episode" of Ellen won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honored Erik for his contributions to the Emmy Award winning achievement. (There is no truth to the rumor that Ellen "came out" because Erik drunkenly hit on her at the season 3 wrap party.)
Erik also worked on Between Brothers (FOX), the You Wish pilot (ABC), and the Wes Craven-Shaun Cassidy pilot Hollyweird (FOX), before joining The Hughleys (ABC), where he received his first writing credits: "Curse of the Coyote Man"(story) and "Love the One You're With" (story and script).
During brief stint as a researcher for Guinness Book of World Records (FOX), Erik found an Eskimo who set the record for Highest Vertical Kick before returning to world of scripted television with the Cedric the Coach pilot (WB), That's So Raven (Disney Channel), Cedric the Entertainer Presents (FOX), 2003 MTV Movie Awards, Good Girls Don't (Oxygen), The Hollow Men (Comedy Central) and Weeds (Showtime).
Having written for comedians like Ellen, D.L Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer, Erik finally decided to "start taking comedy seriously" to see if he could perform jokes he was writing for other people. He now performs at the World Famous Comedy Store, Laugh Factory and Hollywood Improv.
In front of the camera, Erik can be seen in the reality show Situation: Comedy, the Red Sox documentary Yet We Believe and the independent film Barry Munday (now playing!). Erik Marino currently lives on the Sunset Strip with the beautiful singer-songwriter Rebecca Ruth Fisher (available on itunes).
