Jason Danieley and The Frontier Heroes is an eclectic Back-porch Americana band based in New York City. New York City? Sure, and what’s more eclectic than seven musicians of various backgrounds playing a musical Jambalaya that encompasses Blues, Country, Folk, Jazz, Standards, Old Time and even some Broadway.
Led by vocalist Jason Danieley, The Frontier Heroes take a look at music styles that are uniquely American and imbue them with a genuine back-porch sound. They are an acoustic band of piano, bass, guitar, banjo, mandolin, tenor guitar, fiddle and percussion, with a smattering of rich vocal harmonies. The sound is an homage to the family bands of yesterday that entertained themselves in the days before radio, or before they could afford a radio.
The band was formed to bring a contemporary vitality to music that has been around for quite a while and to bring an earthier quality to some newer songwriters: a showcase for the likes of Hank Williams, Stephen Foster, Loudon Wainwright III and Stevie Wonder, all under one roof. The results – utilizing some of the most highly sought-after young musicians in New York’s Broadway theatre scene, musicians who can play any and all kinds of music – bridges an old-time sound with a decidedly contemporary pop/country approach.
Jason, Dan Lipton and sound engineer Scott Lehrer produced Jason Danieley and The Frontier Heroes’ self-titled debut album. Their goal was to blend the polish of a fully-produced studio album with the excitement and spontaneity of a live performance. Sit back, kick your shoes off – and don’t be surprised if you soon find yourself back on your feet – achin’ to dance!
