As the offspring of a sex-ed teacher and funk band front man, Lauren Vino could not avoid comedy. She got her start at age 12 when she lied about her age to take high school classes at Second City. Vino performed with Second City's youth ensembles for 5 years, before going to college to pursue a future in writing and journalism. She spent her time at DePaul writing a humorous column about activism until it was subsequently banned.
In 2008, Lauren completed Second City's writing program and went on to write and produce several sketch comedy shows throughout Chicago. She began performing stand up comedy in January 2008, and since then she has been featured throughout the country. Centerstage calls Vino "witty, thoughtful and energetic, with the humorist’s ability to turn the commonplace on its head and turn it into something bizarre and wonderful, yet somehow true." She has been a regular at Chicago's famous Zanies Comedy Club for the "Female Funnies" show and "The Rising Star Showcase."
Vino is currently based out of New York. When she is not performing stand up, she writes humorous essays about stand up for ComedyOfChicago.com and RE:Com Magazine. You can catch her silly, self exploitive brand of comedy every Friday with the Tribeca Comedy Collective at the Tribeca Comedy Club.
