Standup comedian, artist, actor, father, Shawn McLean is compassionate and spontaneous, and gets pleasure from creating laughter. He loves to engage with colorful people; and draws inspiration from enthusiasm and intelligence. Shawn got his first start in show business at the tender age of five years old, when asked how has he been able to avoid the stigmatism many child actors are plagued with he attributes his success to straying away from this prenotion to his parents and the faith in which he was raised, “Growing up in a Pentecostal household definitely has its ups and downs, but I have to be thankful because the faith has instilled discipline, structure, and patients. These are all attributes needed to become successful in the entertainment business”.
Entering the entertainment industry young has been a blessing in disguise for the once shy McLean, “This industry has contributed greatly to shaping my on and off stage persona because it has forced me to engage & connect with people that normally I would not have interacted with”. Shawn remembers the first time he had the privilege of sitting and talking with his mentor Bill Cosby, “Mr. Cosby asked me one of the most profound questions that I have ever heard. He asked why people should invest time and pay money to watch me perform. Mr. Cosby opened my mind up to what it means to be a professional talent”.
Comedy is speaking what is true whether it is politically correct or not. Being a standup comedian is Shawn’s voice & his outlet.”I was attracted to comedy at a young age. While other kids played outside, I was in front of the television watching comedy greats like Sin Bad, Damon Wayans, Robert Townsend, Bill Cosby, Tommy Davidson, Arsino Hall, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, & Red Fox.” I learned how to take the truth and creatively stretch it to new limits, “Chris Tucker once told me to be comfortable in my ability and personality.”
Shawn’s intent is to become a timeless comedian whose art will always burn white hot!
