Sarah Burford knew from the moment she was born that she was made to make people laugh. Being the only girl in a Catholic family of three boys, and an overweight teenager, Sarah learned that there was always something to make people laugh. As her childhood coincided with the Golden Age of Stand-Up Comedy, she would spend hours watching comedians on shows like Live from the Improv Live from the Laugh Factory and Caroline’s Comedy Hour and then imitate her favorite lines to her classmates.
After graduating from Ball State University in 1993 Sarah enlisted in the United States Navy and served five years as a Navy Journalist. Her first duty station of Port Hueneme, Calif., gave her the opportunity to travel to Hollywood to see the shows at the famed comedy clubs that line the Sunset Strip including the Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store.
In 2009, a dare would lead her to the stage of the famed Comedy Store. Here, on a warm May evening, she would have her first taste of life behind the mic. "It was like a shot of comedy heroine. Once I had a taste I wanted more, and more, and more."
Open mic nights quickly lead to invitations to perform at comedy clubs around San Diego, and quickly earned the new comic the reputation as one of the best female comics in San Diego. She has become a fixture in the San Diego LGBT entertainment scene performing in a wide variety of LGBT events such as San Diego and South Bay Pride and the monthly Laugh Out Proud show that she also co-produces. To date, she has performed with national headlining acts such as Tommy Savitt, Dat Phan and Mark Christopher Lawerence, Renee Santos and Cathy Lewis.
Sarah continues to perform in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and clubs spanning coast-to-coast doing what she loves to do most, making people laugh.
