Luke Heggie
Brisbane-born Sydney labourer Luke Heggie began 2010 with the New Year’s Resolution that he’d get on stage and do some stand-up. His first gig was the one where he won his RAW Comedy heat; his second was the one where he got through the semi-final. His third was the one where he won the state final. If you can see a pattern appearing, you may well have guessed that Luke’s ingenious one-liners – delivered with minimal fuss and frills – won him that year’s National RAW Comedy Competition.
He’s an efficient comic: no ostentation, no smoke and mirrors; visual, physical and verbal understatement ensue – followed by much laughter, of course. And because it’s still early days, Luke’s CV is as laconic as his stage manner: his RAW win meant Luke got to play Edinburgh Fringe, where he opened for The Nelson Twins – quite possibly the most Aussie comedy show to ever play the UK. And Luke was chosen to be part of the 2011 Comedy Zone – the show the Melbourne International Comedy Festival puts together from the very best up-and-comers.
