You say thank goodness it's Friday, we say Thank Goodness it's FUNNY.
So come kick off your weekend with the funniest comics doing stand up this Friday.
Roy Wood Jr:
The thought-provoking comedy of Roy Wood Jr. crosses cultural lines and has entertained millions nationwide by stage, radio and television. Roy will join Steve Byrne, Owen Benjamin and Ahmed Ahmed as the Sullivan & Son Comedy Tour comes to Zanies on Thursday, May 15th.
Wood, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, began his comedy career in 1999 at the age of 19 while attending Florida A&M University. By October 2006 Wood made his network television debut on Late Night with David Letterman. In 2008, Wood appeared on HBO’s historic Def Comedy Jam. Described as “charismatic crankiness” by Entertainment Weekly, Wood has worked with an array of comedians ranging from D.L. Hughley, Ron White, Monique, Bill Engvall, and Katt Williams. In 2011, he was selected by America as one of the top three finalists on Last Comic Standing on NBC and can now be found as a series regular on TBS' hit comedy Sullivan & Son.
Mary Patterson Broome:
Mary Patterson Broome is your new favorite gal pal. Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Mary Patterson (that’s a double-name, y’all) has been thrilling the masses since her first starring role in the elementary school classic, “Crosspatch and Cupid.” With just the right combination of charm and cynicism, this stand-up comedian (and occasional actress and writer available for hire) entertains crowds at clubs, colleges and casinos all over the country. She has also performed for United States service men and women stationed at Air Force, Army and Naval bases across the Middle East. She regularly opens for comedic icons Richard Lewis and Dom Irrera and is a veteran performer of the country’s longest running all female stand-up show, Pretty, Funny Women. She has appeared on nationally syndicated radio’s The Bob & Tom Show and has been invited to perform at numerous festivals including SF Sketchfest, the Moontower Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull Festival and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival. She is currently the co-host of Homeo and Juliet, a podcast with fellow comedian and writer, Jason Romaine. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University and writes about the trials and tribulations of being a white girl from a nice family on her blog: www.uppermiddleclassangst.com.
